aesthetic fact

music, happiness moods, mythology, faces eroded by the time, such places want to communicate something; ‘this urge of a revelation which doesn’t occur is, probably, the aesthetic fact’ (M. Blanchot). / from About asemic writing by F. Aprile and C. Caggiula, Utsanga.it, 2015

the idea

In the Zibaldone, written between 1817 and 1832, G. Leopardi writes: ‘I realise that the hieroglyphic writing is coming back in auge; feelings and ideas are no more written, but cast and not being able to find meaning in the words, we would like to paint ideas or signify meanings by symbols, like Chinese, whose writing does not represent words, but ideas. Is this not bringing back the art of writing to childhood?‘ (pp.703, 704).
