Governo Federal do Brasil, Ministério da Cultura and Petrobras present

“International Exhibition of Visual Poetry Scriptum” will open to the public this Thursday (October 30th) at the Casa de Cultura, in Maricá City, Brazil.

The exhibition, part of the “Rio de Versos” festival, will be on display until November 11th, with free admission, and brings together works by 30 visual poets from 23 countries.
Starting this Thursday at the Casa de Cultura, in the center of Maricá, will host visual poetry by presenting the works of 30 visual poets from 23 countries in the “International Exhibition of Visual Poetry Scriptum”. The exhibition, with free admission, will be open from 10 am and will remain available until November 11th. The opening will take place at 6 pm.
The exhibition is part of the program of “Rio de Versos – International Poetry Festival – 30th Edition Commemorative Journey – Maricá 2025”, which takes place from Thursday (October 30th) to Sunday (November 2nd) and brings together poets from 20 Brazilian states and more than 40 countries, 13 of them present in person. The international festival is organized by the Governo Federal do Brasil and the Ministério da Cultura, with sponsorship from Petrobras.
The works of visual poets materialized in the Scriptum exhibition seek to present multiple forms of expression, in fusions of words and images, blurring the boundaries between literature and visual arts. Beyond the current context, where Visual Poetry exhibitions are still rare in South America, this collection of works recognizes and affirms the power of this artistic category.
Conceptual, thematic, and technical diversity
For the exhibition’s curator, Tchello d’Barros, the proposed conceptual, thematic, and technical diversity offers a counterpoint in an era where the image dominates mass media and the word proliferates in media banalization. “It is always transcendent to be in the idyllic and progressive Maricá City and even more so to be able to contribute to its cultural evolution with an exhibition of hybrid language, which is Visual Poetry,” – stated the curator.
The poetic experience here, sometimes read, sometimes visualized, is mediated by aesthetic plurality, ranging from minimalist, chaotic, forceful, and even ironic variations, but always challenging worldviews that permeate social, political, and even philosophical fields. These are visual signs that connect concepts such as resistance, identity, and affections, sometimes breaking with conventional perceptions of reality.
“Bringing the Scriptum Exhibition to Maricá City expands the scope of ‘Rio de Versos’ and reaffirms the festival’s commitment to experimentation and dialogue between languages. Visual poetry is art that crosses borders, and here it finds a curious, open, and diverse audience – as should be the culture we want to strengthen,” expresses the creator and general director of “Rio de Versos” and Secretary of Culture and Utopias of Maricá, Sady Bianchin.

The “Festival Internacional de Poesia Rio de Versos” (with the Scriptum’s exhibition) is organized by the Ministério da Cultura, through the Lei Rouanet, with sponsorship from Petrobras. The Lei Rouanet (Lei No. 8.313/1991) is a tax incentive mechanism for cultural projects in Brazil. It allows companies and individuals to allocate part of their Income Tax to support cultural projects, deducting the invested amount from the tax due. Projects must be approved by the Ministério da Cultura, following technical criteria, and sponsors are exempt from responsibility for managing the project’s resources. This project was made possible by the existence and compliance with the Lei Rouanet.
